HBO has ordered the pilot and nine episodes of  “A Game of Thrones” for a first season which will debut next spring. The “Song of Ice and Fire” novel series by George R.R Martin.

A Game of Thrones takes place in a world were the upcoming winter will last forty years. As the long winter approaches royalty and renegades fight to gain control of the throne. The novels follow the Stark family as the patriarch becomes the king’s right-hand man.

Each of the four novels in the series will serve as a season of the show, the same way the Stookie Stackhouse novels and True Blood series are playing out.

The series will star: Harry Lloyd, Mark Addy, Alfie Allen, Sean Bean, Esmé Bianco, Jamie Campbell Bower, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Ron Donachie, Jennifer Ehle, Jack Gleeson, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Richard Madden, Joseph Mawle, Rory McCann Ian McNeice, Tamzin Merchant,  Jason Momoa Richard Ridings, Donald Sumpter, Brian Thompson, Sophie Turner, Bronson Webb, and Maisie Williams.
