I played the Halo games but didn’t realize how large and detailed the Halo universe is. These short films really open it up to fans of Halo. Those that follow anime will probably recognize some of the directors and studios that created these short films.

Studio Bones who created Eureka 7, one of my favorite anime of all time, created the short titled Prototype, which was one of my favorites. It follows an UNSC Sgt, Call Sign: Ghost. He is sent into hostile territory to evacuate and destroy a weapons prototype…intense action and a great story of redemption.

Toei Animation, from Dragonball fame, handles a film called Odd One Out. My kids really enjoyed this one. It’s an over the top and humorous compared to the others. It follows a bungling Spartan and his adventures when he falls out of his transport. …lots of action, and jokes in this one.

Then there is the short directed by Shinji Aramaki, the creator of countless Mecha and director of the CG animated Appleseed films. This is a CG animated short about Master Chief and four other Spartans as they try to rescue Dr. Halsey the creator of the Spartan program from the Covenant… lots of action and beautiful animation.

Even if you are not a fan of the Halo series this movie takes you deeper into the world of Halo and actually makes you more of a fan. As an anime fan you will love the stand alone stories and enjoy the work of five of the very best anime studios. You won’t be disappointed.
