One extremely popular club at the academy is The Ouran Host Club, which consists of six very attractive and popular boys who “entertain” female clients. When Haruhi, a new scholarship student, accidentally breaks an expensive vase; the members of the Ouran Host Club agree to allow her to work her debt off by running various errands.

Haruhi’s short hair and plain clothes lead the members of the club to believe she is a boy, so when they see her potential as a host, they make her join the Club, which she agrees to since doing so will pay off her debt faster.

Once the club members realize that Haruhi is actually a girl, they become protective of her, their lives of privilege are enriched as they are introduced to new experiences and people through Haruhi, and the most desired host, Tamaki Suou even finds himself falling for her!

I initially had no interest in this series, but one night I caught an episode on FUNimaiton and I was instantly addicted. While the male members of the Host Club tend to be out there, Haruhi is every relatable. Even though she finds herself immersed in a world of privilege she never even knew existed, she still manages to have a greater effect on the guys than they do on her.

The show is quirky and the animation is fun. At times the characters break the fourth wall and speak directly to the camera, you really never know what to expect…and I love that in an anime series.

The complete series (26 episodes) will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 30, 2010.

Bio: Honey is a senior, but the blonde cutie looks very much like a young child. The girls at Ouran Academy go crazy for his innocent cuteness and his obsession with sweets and stuffed animals.

Takashi “Mori” Morinozuka
