It has kind of a cult following in Japan and throughout Europe, and I can see why.

I just saw the first episode of Kekkaishi on Adult Swim on my birthday May 29th. I never heard of this anime but I liked it. Very original concept. I went online to learn a little more about it. It actually started as a manga in 2003. Then as an anime in Japan from October 2006 thru February 2008. It has Nintendo DS and Wii games in Japan.

It has kind of a cult following in Japan and throughout Europe, and I can see why. The animation is beautiful and so are the character designs.

The story follows a little boy named Yoshimori and his female counterpart, Tokine. They are descendents of Hazama clan who are demon slayers. They use a technique called Kekkai to capture and destroy demons. They are also protectors of the magical shrine, Karasumori. The closer demons get to the shrine the stronger they become. So Yoshimori and Tokine must capture and destroy the demons as soon as they can. Their technique traps the demons in a box-like barrier and absorbs their energy thru their magical staff. They are also accompanied by 2 eel looking dogs who help them track the demons.

Even though I only saw the first episode I am hooked. The characterization looks to be a real dynamic that I am interested in following and like I said before, the animation is gorgeous. Check it out on Adult Swim on Saturdays at 12:30 AM.
