It seems like there was a lot of craziness at MegaCon this year that I was completely unaware of while in attendance.

Ethan Van Sciver and Mark Waid confronted art theft/impostor Robert Granito and told him to enjoy the weekend since it would be his last convention (maybe that is what they were off doing, when I couldn’t find them at their tables).

Unfortunately we missed the DC panel (we were in line to meet Stan Lee and The TNG guests), where Geoff Johns announced he would be writing a new Aquaman ongoing series, spinning out of the events of Brightest Day. While Greg (aka the Cameraman) was able to make some Geoff Johns sightings the closest I got to meeting him was standing next to his empty table, I did however see Dan DiDio running around having a blast throughout the convention.

On Friday we picked up some Greg Horn prints (both Greg and I had picked some up at Miami Wizard World last month), I got to catch up with Amanda Conner (who I love even more now), and I met J Scott Campbell!! We talked about his covers for Elephantmen and I purchased an amazing Black Cat print from him. We also met up with Stanley The Snow Man creator Austin Janowsky, and I got an issue of The Last Resort signed by both Jimmy Palmiotti and Darwyn Cooke. After spending a couple of hours at the show we checked into our hotel room and spent the rest of the day at Universal Studios.

On Saturday, I had to try to meet Geoff Johns one more time, but by 10:05 (the convention doors opened at 10:00) there was already a line of fans that wrapped the convention floor, and he wasn’t going to be there for another hour and a half, I was disappointed.

Unable to meet Geoff, we moved on to Froggy’s Photos, which was a nightmare. I am not sure how many of you have dealt with them in the past, this was our first time. I was amazed by their rudeness, unprofessionalism, and total lack of organization. Once we finally figured out what was going on, we found our place in the William Shatner line, where we amused ourselves during the 1.5 hour wait by spying on the other stars just behind the curtain.

Once we finally took our picture with Shatner, Greg went off to find protective sheets for our photos and got a cover signed by Billy Tucci, while I waited for my TNG photo op.

Greg held our place in the Stan Lee line as I took the picture that meant the world to me, even more so than Shatner, or Lee. I got to meet Worf, Troi & my all time favorite Star Trek character Riker, and they were all together! Froggy’s Photos really managed to mess this one up though. I was first in line, yet was one of the last people to have my photo taken. Even though they overcharged me (and a handful of others) for my group shot, they somehow managed not to print my picture. Thankfully one of the MegaCon volunteers stepped up and fixed what would have been a disaster, and I finally got my photo (three hours after the fact).

Greg and I were the first in line for Mr. Stan Lee and we were treated to a sight we still talk about: Stan Lee walking past us, I need to rephrase that; Stan Lee flying past us. The man may be ninety but he walks faster than most people I know, that is why we now refer to him as The Flash (I know,I know The Flash is DC). He was super nice and I am thrilled that I got the chance to meet not one but two living legends (not even the horribleness of Froggy’s could ruin that for me).

Once all the photos were taken, and the mess with my TNG photo was cleared up we headed over to Jonathan Frakes’ table for an autograph (I would have loved to have gotten autographs from Marina and Michael too, but I had already blown my budget for the weekend). I had to wait an extra few seconds because he wanted a photo op with a group of cosplayers (that moment made me like him even more). I got the chance to talk with him a little and he even sang me a song while he signed my picture.

We ended the day and our MegaCon experience at the Star Trek: The Next Generation Panel. I found myself cracking up throughout the entire hour. The three of them are extremely nice and funny and they truly have a blast together which made watching them interact a ton of fun. Michael Dorn has written and plans to direct two projects both staring Marina Sirtis, a romantic comedy entitled Grand Delusion (which he will also star in) and Through The Fire a film based on a Greek Opera singer, Maria Callas. Jonathan Frakes is busy directing and told everyone to check out Current TV at 10:00 PM on April 8th for a project he did with his wife Genie Francis.

That was it for 2011, looking forward to seeing what MegaCon has in store for us in 2012...

Birds of Prey was a great series that only lasted one season. The Aquaman pilot episode (download it from iTunes if you haven’t already seen it, you won’t be disappointed) staring now Green Arrow Justin Hartley was promising, yet never saw the light of day. Just last year The Graysons, a series based on my favorite male superhero Dick Grayson, was in the works, yet it never even made it to the pilot stage (which according to the variety article is because DC and Christopher Nolan didn’t want it to over lap the Batman film franchise).

Am I excited about the prospect? Of course! I think a character like Raven, whose mother is human and father demon, would provide a darkness much like Smallville had in its early days that would draw viewers in. But I have been following entertainment news long enough to know that nothing is final until a series order is actually made by the network.
