The World’s Finest has brought us some exciting news from the MIP Junior conference in Cannes. According to them Sam Register, the Executive Vice President For Creative Affairs at Warner Bros. Animation, confirmed news of a new CG Batman series: Beware The Batman.
The series is set to primer in 2013. It will feature a classic looking Batman teaming up with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth. Katana will be the Dark Knight’s sidekick. “Katana is gonna be his new Robin, but not necessarily,” Register said. (It should also be noted that they are saying that Katana will be a younger female character, so there is no telling how much she will have in common with the Katana who appeared in the comics as a member of the Outsiders).
Register also had this to say about the villains “We went in deeper into the villain library and pulled out some other villains. We didn’t want to do another Joker story…there’s too many of them…We just needed to do something new, so we’re starting off with new villains.”
Next year the DC Nation block will feature claymation Batman and Plastic Man shorts by Aardman (the studio behind Wallace, Gromit). It will also feature a series of animated shorts entitled Super Best Friends Forever that will team up Wonder Girl, Bat Girl, and Supergirl. Doom Patrol shorts are also in production.
