We’re going to dedicate this week’s short film to Japanese monster toys known as Kaiju. They’re becoming quite common amongst serious vinyl toy collectors these days, so we thought we’ll give you a little bit of info on them with these two videos featuring the trailer to 2 vol. of “Toypunks”.

If you can, rent the documentary Toypunks. It gives you the history and people behind the designer vinyl toy craze including the artist behind the first designer vinyl toy “Bounty Hunter”. Toypunks Vol. 2 seems like it’s going to feature artist and creators of Kaiju vinyl figures which I will be looking forward to. It so happens that locally at The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens there will be a history of Kaiju Japanese vinyl toys with Professor James B. Levy; an avid collector of Japanese vinyl toys, and Mark Nagata; owner of the largest collection of Ultraman toys outside of Japan. We’ll try to attend this event in October and see if we can take some pictures and post them up for you here on Comi Girl.
