With the fall season in full swing and only three months left in the 2010 calendar year, we decided to find a couple of movies that might have otherwise gone un-noticed amongst the hyped up & heavily promoted films like; The Social Network, Jackass 3D, Megamind, Skyline, Tron: Legacy and Little Fockers. Some of the movies like; Saw 3D, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows 3D and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader already have a well-established fan base that will see these movies regardless of what anyone says. So that leads us to a few movies that are flying under the radar, let’s take a look at 8 sleepers you don’t want to miss.

1.    BURIED. The trailer for the thriller Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds was first posted around April and now that the summer blockbuster train has finally left the station, Buried has re-gained some exposure. The synopsis of this movie is that Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is buried 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why and armed only with his cell phone, he has only 90 minutes to find a way to be rescued. This is interesting because the length of the movie is around 90 minutes. Buried is set to open this Friday, Sep 24. and is directed by Rodrigo Cortés. Watch The Trailer.

2.    RED. Here’s an action comedy brought to you by Summit Entertainment & DC Comics, starring the who’s who of Hollywood; Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and the list goes on and on. Red was a three issue mini-series created by writer Warren Ellis and artist Cully Hamner, and published in 2003-04 by Wildstorm imprint Homage Comics. The synopsis of Red is that Frank (Bruce Willis), Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) used to be the CIA’s top agents, but the secrets they know just made them the agency’s top target. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. Gun totting action stars that “I” can call grandma & grandpa; it’s not too late for me to become an actor after all. Red is directed by Robert Schwentke and will be released on October 15, 2010. Watch The Trailer.

3.    HEREAFTER.  Directed by Clint Eastwood, so you know this movie has substance. Hereafter stars Matt Damon as ‘George’, a man that has a special connection to the afterlife. Marcus (Frankie McLaren) a London schoolboy and Marie (Cecile De France) a French Journalist both have near-death experiences and seek the aid of George (Matt Damon) for answers to their questions. Will they find it? The trailer looks good and for those of you that want action with their drama, you will find it with Hereafter. Opens October 22, 2010. Watch The Trailer.

4.    MONSTERS. Wow. Red, Hereafter, Monsters and 127 Hours are all premiering in succession! Action comedy, Drama and Sci-fi, these are 4 movies you want to save up for. Monsters is in the same vain as 2009’s sleeper hit District 9. “Aliens come to our planet, and coexist with humans,” or do they? This movie has a documentary type action feel to it, same as District 9. And if you found District 9 to be enjoyable with special effects that complimented rather than dominate the story, then grab a seat and share your popcorn with me…please. Opens October 29, 2010 and is directed by Gareth Edwards. This movie has some interesting trivia to it, like it was made with $15,000, the camera and editing equipment was off the shelf consumer stuff, the extras in the movie were whoever happened to be around and the locations were filmed without permission. I don’t know how much of this is true, but I guess we’ll find out whenever the DVD comes out. Regardless, I’m liking it already. Now where’s that soda to go along with the popcorn? Watch The Trailer.

5.    127 HOURS. Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle tackles the true story of American mountain climber Aron Ralston, “who in May 2003 had to amputate his lower right arm with a dull knife in order to free himself after his arm became trapped by a boulder while mountaineering in Utah”. Ouch, no double ouch! James Franco has the wonderful privilege of taking dull knife to arm when he portrays Mr. Ralston on November 5, 2010. Ouch…again! Watch The Trailer.

6.    BLACK SWAN. A story about rival ballerinas and it’s a thriller! Starring Natalie Portman as ‘Nina’ and Mila Kunis as ‘Lilly’. The trailer shows a hint of lovemaking between Nina & Lilly…Fanboys do I need to continue. Oh, you already saw this in your dreams? Little devils you!  Opens December 1, 2010 and is directed by Darren Aronofsky. Watch The Trailer.

7.    THE WARRIOR’S WAY. When was the last time you saw flying Asian swordsmen in the Wild West? Umm…like never. It’s been a good while since we’ve seen a crazy martial arts movie hit the theaters, and guess what? December 3, 2010 is your day to dream no more, of being the bestest swordsman assassin in all of Asia, or some western town. Starring, Kate Bosworth & Jang Dong-gun and directed by Sngmoo Lee. Watch The Trailer.

8.    THE FIGHTER. It’s good to see Christian Bale out of the Batman suit, really good. Mark Wahlberg plays the boxer ‘Irish’ Mickey Ward, but its Christian Bale as ‘Dickie Eklund’ that brings substance to this movie, don’t believe me…watch the trailer. Opens December 10, 2010 and is directed by David O. Russell. Watch The Trailer.
