Harvey Pekar was found dead at his home early Monday, he was 70. The cause of death is still unclear but he had prostate cancer, asthma, high blood pressure and suffered from depression.

Pekar is best know for the autobiographical comic series American Splendor. The comic chronicled his life as a file clerk in Cleveland. Pekar first created the series in 1976, the last graphic novel was released in 2008.

In 2003 theĀ  film adaption of American Splendor was released, and honored by New York Film Critics Circle for directing.

In 1994 Pekar released the graphic novel, “Our Cancer Year,” which detailed his battle with lymphoma.
