Marvel “Ripping” Off DC Covers

I still find this hard to believe, but according to numerous stories  Marvel released a press release yesterday stating that for every 50  stripped DC covers (of Adventure Comics #4, Booster Gold #26,Doom Patrol #4, Justice League Of America #39,Outsiders #24, R.E.B.E.L.S #10) that a retailer turns in they will receive an “extremely rare” Siege #3 Deadpool Variant.

The reasoning behind this move is to see how/ if  DC’s ring promotion and Blackest Night banner boosted sells of these books (for every 50 or 25 books ordered retailers could order a bag of corps rings). And according to the press release it is a way for Marvel to “provide assistance to comic retailers in 2010″.

I am a DC girl so you can only image how I feel about this “promotion” although I must say I think if DC were doing the same thing to Marvel, I would still find it in bad taste…what do you think?

  1. Is it in bad taste?….Yeah.
R Marvel being shmucks 4 doin what their doin?…dblYeah

The thing is Marvel hasn’t been the top dog 4 as long as it has by playing nice with others. DC is having its moment 2 shine and Marvel has no wish 2 share the spotlight. I don’t condone what they’re doing, but I think I get it.

Oh, and b4 I 4get, belated Happy New Year, Marylou
