What can I say I love my Ame-Comi statues! But I had to draw the line somewhere and decided that Super Girl V2 and Steel will be my last ones (although Batgirl and Catwoman are always the exception to everything).

I have to admit I was a bit annoyed with these two statues when I first got them. At the comic book store I realized that Steel’s abdomen was missing, we later noticed the part in the packaging and were able to snap it into place. Then when I was unboxing Supergirl her leg fell off, as I was flipping out “The Cameraman” simply snapped that back into place and all was well.

The one thing that I noticed immediately about the two statues are their thickness, unlike other statues in the line these two have some meat on them.

This new version of Supergirl makes the first version look like a joke, although I do have to say the first version looks a lot more anime inspired than the new one. There are three features that I really like on the new version.

(the most noticeable) The car mirror she is holding, the detail is amazing

Her collar has Kryptonian symbols on it

Her skirt is translucent

I love that they made a Natasha Irons statue and I think she looks amazing. She is very detailed, unlike other statues they really put a lot of work into her makeup, and I love her hammer (although getting it into place was a pain).

Both Ame-Comi Heroine Supergirl Version 2 and Ame-Comi Steel are in stores now and cost $60 each.

I love Luis Royo’s work, and the Fantasy Figure statues based on his art are breathtaking. So far Yamato has released a Medusa statue (which was released in classic colors twice and released in Gold and White), and The Touch of Ice, there is a Black Tinker Bell statue also (the resin version is currently available, while the PVC version is scheduled to be released later this month).

The first thing that caught my eye when I received my statue was its size, I am not sure why but I was a little taken back by how small she is (but once I displayed her that was no longer an issue) she stands at 6 inches crouching.

The sculptors of this statue really paid attention to the small details in Luis’ artwork. Although I do have to say that her arm jewelry did not translate well, and looks a little cheap up close, but does not distract from the rest of the statue.

The first production run of the figure (I am sure there will be more) is only 2500. The stand includes a numbered plaque. The certificate of authenticity features a frame worthy print of Luis’ art that the statue is based on.

Fantasy Figure Gallery Luis Royo – The Touch of Ice is in stores now and costs $90.00.

When I was looking for Halloween “themed” toys to post on Comi Girl, I came across some interesting Halloween “themed” paper masks that you can download available through Nice Paper Toys’ website. I had some copy paper lying around & the printer hooked up, so I decided to download them & give em a try.

Husband & wife team of Jen & Brian Gubicza posted the colorful mask on their website, Jen posted the “Halloween Squid” (which I didn’t try) and two masks, the “Owl Mask Coloring Sheet” and the “Fox Mask Coloring Sheet” which I did download but didn’t print out. Brian posted four colorful masks on his website; the Devil Mask, the Black Cat Mask, the Skeleton Mask, and the Witch Mask. I downloaded all of them and printed out, the Devil Mask & the Black Cat Mask.

When printing out these masks or paper toys it’s recommended that you use heavy stock paper or heavy card stock paper for long term use & durability. If you don’t have a printer at home that can handle the printing duties, then use the one at work and print out enough masks for your co-workers. Its cheap fun and everyone will get a kick out of wearing them. I recommend that you cut out the holes for the eyes & string first, before cutting out the mask. I used regular copy paper and an x-acto knife and managed to not rip up the mask.

I tried on the Black Cat Mask first and took a lot of pictures. The one that I decided to post was the one of me where I made my eyes bigger, it just looked a lot better than the rest and filled the eye holes of the mask perfectly.

The Devil Mask was next, and overall looked better on me (not because I’m devilish…hahahahaha) but it had more of a masculine feel compared to the Black Cat Mask, which made me seem like I had butterfly eyes.

Overall I liked the masks, even though they were made to be worn for Halloween, they could work just as well during a Mardi Gras themed event or party. They were fun to wear, not uncomfortable at all & of course free. So I say try them out, and check out some of the other free stuff that Jen & Brain have made available along with admiring & purchasing Brain’s art prints, illustrations, and books, & Jen’s handmade plush toys.

Amaanda Conner’s run of Women of the DC Universe Bust is by far the best one to date (it is the 3rd series), and with busts like Raven it is easy to see why it is selling out.

There are not a lot of Raven figures, so I was really excited when I heard Amanda would being doing a bust of her. The bust’s colors are dull yet striking at the same time. Raven’s eyes are mesmerizing, and the detail on her face sets her apart from other busts in the line. I do have to say though the bust doesn’t do justice to Amanda’s sketch that is shown on the box, but sculptures rarely match the original artist’s magic.

Women of the DC Universe Raven Bust was released on September 29th and it costs $60.

Barbie as Cleopatra is part Mattel’s current line of Fantasy Dolls, she is my first purchase from this line, and is my favorite doll so far. Unlike Medusa and Athena her arms do not move, which is actually a plus. I have had such a hard time getting Medusa & Athena to stand just right, but that isn’t a problem with Cleopatra. While I don’t know why anyone would want to, Cleopatra’s shoes can come off, in fact one of her sandals came off as I was taking her out of the box (it was easy to put back on).

I read quite a few reviews on the Barbie Collector forum from people who where upset with the final look of the doll, mainly her headdress. While the difference in color between the prototype and the actual doll are noticeable, it isn’t enough to make me dislike her. The head dress is a bit lighter, and looks like plastic (unlike Athena, whose armor looks like metal), but is breathtaking nonetheless.

Cleopatra’s hair is very short and cut very blunt, just as you would expect it to be. Her gown and cape are amazing! The colors and the fabric are perfect and fit her headdress well.

Barbie as Cleopatra is a Barbie Gold Label doll, she costs $100 and is available exclusively from Barbie Collector.

The Dark Knight was a good movie, especially those scenes carried out by the obstinate Joker, who was played by Heath Ledger, and no doubt following the tragedy that befell Ledger along with the success of the film, we would see a strong interest in the toys that would be based on The Dark Knight.

Within the last 10 years, Hot Toys Limited has established themselves as one of the premiere companies that has official merchandising rights to produce toys from movies such as, Iron Man, the Aliens & Predator series, Terminator, Appleseed and of course, The Dark Knight. When I first saw The Joker 1/6 scale figure made by Hot Toys, I thought to myself that he might be a good addition to the other Hot Toys 1/6 scale figure that I was looking into purchasing, which was the Bat-Pod. I really don’t care for the Batman character in particular, because without all those crazy characters in the world of Batman like, The Joker, Two-Face, and The Riddler, Batman would just be this lame, rich, bored, psychopathic, traumatized, costume loving freak that’s looking for a back alley fight, because being the heir to a family fortune is how would you say…crappy.

So, no Batman figure to go with the Bat-Pod as part of my collection, only Joker and this Hot Toys Joker (DX01) is something special. The DX01 Joker is actually the third 1/6 scale Joker made by Hot Toys, whereas with the first 1/6 scale Joker, he’s wearing his standard costume, purple pants, jacket, green vest, long sleeve print shirt, and tie. The second 1/6 scale Joker, he’s wearing the ‘Bank Robber’ costume, that as we all know, set the stage for what was to come in the movie. This third 1/6 scale Joker (DX01) is an updated version of the first 1/6 scale figure, and it also comes with the ‘Gotham City Police Uniform’, which again, was another unexpected and gripping scene in the movie. The DX01 Joker stands out from the previous ones, thanks to the introduction of the Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS). This is a great feature to incorporate into a figure that has the facial detail as this one, which was sculpted by; YULLI and painted by JC Hong. With two suits, two heads, seven interchangeable hands, weapons (grenades, knife, pistol, M-1 Rifle), a deluxe stand with LED lights, accessories, and multiple points of articulation, this is an excellent 1/6 scale figure to add to your toy collection.

For the past three years Mattel has released Barbie as Greek Goddesses. It all started in 2008 with Barbie as Medusa, last year Barbie as Aphrodite was released, and just a few short days ago Barbie as Athena hit the market…I received mine yesterday, and she is AMAZING!

As with the other Goddesses Barbies, Athena stays pretty true to the images released by Mattel. Her armor is a little more sliver than gold, and her lip liner is a shade or two darker. Up close the lip liner was a bit of a turn off for me, but on film and when displayed it looks perfect.

Athena’s dress is a bit shorter than I would have liked, but her flowing cape and shied probably work better with it, and the shorter length allows you to see her very detailed boots.

Her shield and spear are great additions (you just need to make sure you do not accidentally cut the rubber holding them to her hands when taking her out of the package), but my favorite part of this doll is her helmet and the gorgeous mane of dark red hair that flows from the top…it makes her look like the goddess of war that she is, after taking her out of the box I found myself wanting to watch 300

Barbie as Athena costs $100 and is available exclusively from Barbie Collector, she a gold label doll (meaning no more than 25,000 will be made), so order yours before it’s too late!

You can watch the “Unboxing” of Athena on our You Tube Page.

I love the Ame-Comi series and have collected all the statues. Batgirl & Catwoman were the first two statues to be released. I loved them both especially the Batgirl statue. My only initial complaint was that they could not stand on their own, the plastic was just too flimsy, and we ended up screwing their feet down which worked, for a while. After a few months of being displayed, the plastic in their legs began bending, it eventually got so bad that I had to pack them up and put them in storage.

I was thrilled when I heard about the second versions. The quality (along with the price) of the statues have increased, they are a lot stronger now, and I haven’t had any more problems with the plastic bending (after Power Girl this wasn’t really a problem anymore).

The new Catwoman Statue is beautiful and pretty much looks like the prototype. The only real difference is her color. The prototype looks more pale, like the rest of the series. The actual statue is tanner. When I first saw her I wasn’t happy about the difference, but she looked amazing once we took her out of the box.

Unfortunately they didn’t do as good of a job with Batgirl. Don’t get me wrong she looks great and I don’t regret purchasing her. They just messed up a few details. Her cape and hands are too high and the bats shown in the prototype just don’t work. The other complaint I have is that while she does look cool, the only way you can enjoy her is if she is at eye level…which really limits where I can display her.
