The programing block will feature the return of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the premiere of Ultimate Spider-Man (which will air on April 1, 2012.).

I could never get into the Avengers cartoon, and I have no interest in the shorts or live action, but I am looking forward to Ultimate Spider-Man. I really enjoyed the Spectacular Spider-Man series, and am hopeful that the new series will be just as good.

As a fan myself,  I really hope that NBC gives the show the respect it deserves…I still don’t know who at the network thought it would be a good idea to have it go up against The Big Bang Theory. Both shows have similar audiences and I think there is more than enough room for both of them (I know there is in my household).

The Source has also announced that a comic book based on the news series will also debut this month, GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES issue #0 will hit shelves on Nov. 30, with additional issues coming in 2012, coinciding with the DC NATION launch. The new comic book is co-written by Art Baltazar & Franco, with illustrations by Dario Brizuela and coloring by Gabe Eltaeb.

The series is set to primer in 2013. It will feature a classic looking Batman teaming up with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth. Katana will be the Dark Knight’s sidekick. “Katana is gonna be his new Robin, but not necessarily,” Register said. (It should also be noted that they are saying that Katana will be a younger female character, so there is no telling how much she will have in common with the Katana who appeared in the comics as a member of the Outsiders).

Register also had this to say about the villains “We went in deeper into the villain library and pulled out some other villains. We didn’t want to do another Joker story…there’s too many of them…We just needed to do something new, so we’re starting off with new villains.”

Next year the DC Nation block will feature claymation Batman and Plastic Man shorts by Aardman (the studio behind Wallace, Gromit). It will also feature a series of animated shorts entitled Super Best Friends Forever that will team up Wonder Girl, Bat Girl, and Supergirl. Doom Patrol shorts are also in production.

That warning didn’t stop Jason Bateman from taking to twitter “It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!” @batemanjason

As a fan of the show who has been following the movie rumors for years, I really hope that 2013 really does bring the return of the highly dysfunctional & hilarious  Bluth Family.

Green Lantern The Animated Series will premiere on Cartoon Network later this year.
