A while back when there was talk of a Wonder Woman adapted movie, Cobie Smulders came up as a candidate for the lead role of the warrior princess from the Amazons. After watching her performance as Agent Marie Hill in the record setting The Avengers movie, I think she’s got the job!

That’s only if they ever make the Wonder Woman movie. Of course, they don’t have to adapt Wonder Woman for celluloid. They can make a TV series (of which they’ve already attempted in 2011 with Adrianne Palicki portraying Wonder Woman, but the pilot was not picked up by NBC). For whatever reason it failed, I believe Adrianne Palicki may not have been believable as Wonder Woman. Not for lack of her acting skills. Sometimes you need to have an actor that just “looks the part” for a character to be believable by an audience.

Adrianne Palicki or Cobie Smulders, who would you choose?

Cobie Smulders currently portrays ‘Robin Scherbatsky’ a former Canadian teen pop star, news reporter & anchor at Metro News1 and now host of a morning show at Channel 12 on the TV series How I Met Your Mother (2005).

Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother

The Avengers will be one of the top ten grossing films of all time (worldwide). The movie has already raked in $600 million worldwide! For those kinds of numbers, I guess people have seen the movie twice or even a third time, and have told everyone they know to go see The Avengers!

The more people that see the movie and watch Cobie Smulders as Agent Marie Hill, then it may exist the possibility that Cobie could land the lead role as Wonder Woman. Especially since Joss Whedon (writer & director) of The Avengers was at one time rumored to be part of the Wonder Woman movie and considered Cobie to portray the Amazons princess.

Even if she never gets that coveted role, she will most likely continue her portrayal of Agent Marie Hill in The Avengers follow up.

With The Avengers movie setting records and some chatter developing that The Dark Night Rises is going to be just okay, and the Spider-Man franchise coming back too soon after being away for just 10 short years, comic book fans are asking…will The Avengers be the CBM of the year?

It’s anyone’s guess really. But The Avengers has started the ball rolling for the rest of the comic book adaptions of 2012. How well The Dark Night Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and other comic book movies do this year on their own should not matter. Because collectively they will be the dominating theme for 2012 and every comic book geek for years to come will look back on this year as a historical time for the overall success of comic book movies.

Also too, while The Avengers was a good movie, one thing it did for me was get me excited to see the other comic book adapted movies even though I’m not too enthused by their trailers, The Dark Knight Rises I’m talking to you!

So it’s great that The Avengers is achieving its success and for the prequels that preceded The Avengers as well. It’s bringing more fans to the comic book genre, especially women which we here at ComiGirl feel is a good thing and of course younger fans and perhaps has proven to all the fanboys out there, that it is possible to tell a story right from the start, and to have some continuity with the subsequent releases.

And it’s for those reasons alone, I vote for The Avengers as CBM of The Year!

Bruce Jun Fan Lee was born in the hour of the Dragon, between 6 and 8 a.m., in the year of the Dragon on November 27, 1940 at the Jackson Street Hospital in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Born during the hour of the year of the Dragon (a symbol of dominance & ambition in Chinese astrology) proved well for the man who was to become known as, Bruce Lee.

One of Bruce Lee’s nickname as a child was “Mo Si Ting” which means “never sits still”. A trait that seemed to carry into his personal martial arts fighting style he developed called, Jeet Kune Do.

Bruce Lee incorporated fast footwork in his fighting style which was attributed to his study of dance. He had a notebook which noted 108 different cha cha steps. And in 1958 he won the Hong Kong Cha Cha Championship.

After returning from Hong Kong back to the States at the age of 18, he later rediscovered his interest in martial arts eventually opening a school that taught gung fu to anyone that would attend his class. Teachers of gung fu did not appreciate that Bruce was teaching this form of martial arts to non-chinese, so they challenged him to a fight. He would stop teaching non-chinese gung fu if he could be defeated, but he was victorious. His defeat was not one of joy, but rather disappointment. This was the turning point in Bruce developing his own martial art style he called, Jeet Kune Do “The Way of The Intercepting Fist.”

Bruce & Linda Lee welcomed the arrival of their daughter Shannon Emory Lee on April 19, 1969, which proved to be a blessing. Today, she continues to preserve the legacy of Bruce Lee, his philosophy, work ethic, ambition, and his martial art.
