Blue Beetle Test Footage

Geoff Johns promised San Diego Comic Con attendees a glimpse at some Blue Beetle test footage, he delivered, and the footage has hit the web. Keep in mind when you are watching it that it is just test footage, so it doesn’t look great. While there has been no word on whether or not there will be a Blue Beetle series there is rumor that the character will appear in an upcoming episode of Smallville.

Batman: Under The Red Hood

A new vigilante has shown up on Batman’s home turf. The Red Hood is determined to clean the streets of Gotham, at any cost; he sees no problem with resorting to extreme violence or even murder. The Red Hood is so talented that he seems to know Batman’s every move, and is easily able to evade the Dark Knight’s attempts to stop him. But things come to a head when The Joker resurfaces and opens old wounds.

It seems like DC just keeps setting the bar higher and higher with each animated movie’s release. The animation was very crisp, the colors although dark really popped on the screen. The voice acting was good, although John Dimaggio’s Joker was a little weak. I believe Kevin Conroy should always be the voice of Batman, but I have to admit that Bruce Greenwood was a good choice for the role.

This is definitely the darkest of the DC animated movies to date. I actually cringed when the Joker was beating Jason to death, which is how the film opens, before jumping ahead five years. I was really looking forward to Nightwing being in the film, but his role is pretty small, and wasn’t taken seriously at all. I think the only reason he shows up is to show the audience the stark difference between him and Jason.

Ghosts from the past show up here and there to fill in some of the blanks for those who are not familiar with the story, all of which are brought on by the places Red Hood chooses for his encounters with Batman.

I really enjoyed the movie and am happy to add it to my DC Animated collection, although I did have to try to explain all the different Robins to the Cameraman, which is really fun especially since Bruce isn’t back from the “dead” yet.

DC Showcase Jonah Hex: The short was written by Joe R. Lansdale, and was based on a story appearing in the comic written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti. It features the voices of Thomas Jane (Every time Jonah spoke I found myself thinking about Hung), and Linda Hamilton. The short gave a good glimpse into the character.

Sucker Punch

A young girl, confined to a mental institution by her stepfather who plans to have her lobotomized in five days time, creates an imaginary world to plan her escape.

Sucker Punch is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, and Jamie Chung. It will be in theaters on March 25, 2011.

Green Lantern Posters

There were four Green Lantern posters that debuted at San Diego Comic Con, and have found their way to the web. The posters feature Hal Jordon, Carol Ferris, and give us our first look at Sinestro and Hector Hammond.

I don’t know about you, but so far I have been very happy with all the images released.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides- Teaser

In the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain Jack Sparrow and his rival Barbossa race each other to discover the location of the Fountain of Youth.

The teaser is nothing more than Johnny Depp dressed as Jack Sparrow speaking to the camera about the mission that “were not to happen”, but it is still great.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, and Penelope Cruz. It will be released on May 20, 2011.

The Goon

Based on Eric Powell’s comic from Dark Horse Entertainment, The Goon follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and “skunk apes.”

The Goon script was written by creator Eric Powell, and the movie features the voices of Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown. The film still needs a distributor, therefore there is no release information available yet.

Priest Teaser

Based on TokyoPop’s manga, Priest follows a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.
Priest stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, and Lily Collins.

Priest was supposed to be released this year, but as with a lot of movies recently its release was pushed back so the movie could receive 3D treatment…it will now be in theaters on May 13, 2011.

Drive Angry

A vengeful father hunts down the people who brutally killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. As the chase gets bloodier by the mile, his rescue spins out of control, leaving bodies strewn along the highway.

Drive Angry stars Nicolas Cage, William Fichtner, Amber Heard, Billy Burke, and David Morse. It will be released in 3D on February 11, 2011.
