What’s a Tenchi Muyo series without Tenchi?!  That’s what we have with Tenchi Muyo GXP.  I really like the Tenchi Muyo series.  The chemistry and tension between Tenchi and the girls is very well done.  The characters are all likable from the crazy space pirate Ryoko, to the demure Jurai princess Ayeka, to the always sweet Sasami. Tenchi Muyo GXP tries to give us the same thing but fails.  I will explain in a second but let me go over the series.

It follows Tenchi’s so-called neighbor Seina, who even looks like Tenchi with a Band-Aid on his forehead. Unlike Tenchi, who is kind of a goof ball, Seina is a walking disaster, literally. Apparently he has the worst luck since Martin Short in Pure Luck.

Despite his bad luck Seina somehow gets recruited into the Galaxy Police and becomes part of a ship and crew. Did I mention he is a walking bad luck charm and has no type of special abilities at all? Even the female characters who fawn all over him (just like the girls did with Tenchi) just seem weird to me. I do have to admit the girls in GXP are very, ahem, well drawn (if you know what I mean. ).

Anyway I did not like GXP. If it wasn’t for the ridiculous plot and humor I probably would like it even less. If you like any of the Tenchi Muyo series be warned this is nothing like them. If you do watch the series, don’t have any preconceived ideas about it, because you will probably be disappointed.

They should have just named it GXP; I might have liked it better.
