You know I love giant fighting Mecha, amazing ninja battles, and fantastical anime. But I also have a 7 year old daughter who, like her dad, loves anime but a different type. She loves the numerous girly anime like Hello Kitty and Sasami Magical Club. Because of her I have watched and actually (don’t tell anyone) enjoyed them. One of these is Jubei Chan. At first glance it looks like some little girly schoolgirl anime. Incorrect!!
Jubei Chan is about a young girl named Jiyu NanoHana, her dad Sai nicknames her Jubei. She then gets possessed by the legendary swordsman Yagyu Jubei. However the only way Yagyu Jubei manifests himself is by putting on the lovely eyepatch. When she does she ages about 10 years and becomes this fierce samurai warrior. She then has to fight the descendants of the Ryujoji clan who have a vendetta against Yagyu Jubei.
The animation is a bit dated but well done for it’s time. The characters are absolutely hilarious. From her dim witted guardian, to her lunatic dad to her moronic classmates. There is a little to much tongue in cheek sexuality for my liking. But it totally goes over the head of younger viewers. Really over the top physical comedy, and if you are looking to laugh out loud, go with Jubei Chan.
