I love original anime, and Iria-Zeiram the Animation is really original. It is a sci-fi fantasy epic. Although it doesn’t have cool mecha robots, it has really original tech design. A bit weird, and otherworldly but that’s what makes it good. The animation is extremely well done for its time. The characters are well developed and so is the story.
It revolves around Iria, a kind of bounty hunter girl, and an alien mutant creature, Zieram. At least I think it is an alien mutant creature. It looks like a man with a large wicker hat but it is actually a powerful monster. Zieram basically just wants to kill everyone and Iria has to stop him. Iria uses sophisticated armor and weapons and was trained by her brother who was killed.
Iria-Zieram the Animation is a six episode OVA it was also made into a couple live action films. I have seen the live action version and it is pretty good, although low budget. The animation really details the world Iria lives in and the tools she uses. If you are in the mood to watch an anime without your typical mecha action go with Iria-Zeriam the Animation. The extremely original story and anime designs makes it a definite must watch.
