A very interesting, and original series.
Code Geass is an anime series created by Sunrise Studios best known for their Gundam series, and released by Bandai Entertainment. The story revolves around the Holy Britannian Empire invading Japan, and taking over the country, they do this using mecha known as Knightmare Frames. Since I am a huge mecha fan I checked this series out. The animation is very unique and the characters have a noodle-ly style. I wasn’t impressed with the mecha initially, but when the Lancelot and the Guren Mark II show up, it really peaked my interest.
The story revolves around Lelouch, a teenage boy who is granted the Geass or Power of the Kings. Using it he can make anyone do whatever he
wants but only once. With that power and his genius, he is a strategical prodigy, as he tries to overthrow the Britannian occupation. Using a group of Japanese resistance fighters he renames, the Black Knights, dons a black costume, and takes the name Zero. Using his genius he starts to win battles over the enemy even though they have more troops and technology.
It is the classic underdog story. The good guys are less equipped but more clever then their overwhelming enemies. The plot gets a little complicated with Lelouch’s connection with the royal Britannian family.
It gets a little hard to follow and the characters act a little too extreme for my liking. Sometimes the action and story get in the way of each other. However the series is well written, though I would probably do a couple things differently. It was very popular in Japan and won a few anime awards.
Definitely a must watch!

Yeah, I really enjoyed the underdog element… even the ties to royalty but there were things that didn’t sit well with me the longer it went on. I dug the colors and concept though.
