One of the best mecha anime I have seen in a while. The mecha are more like battle exoskeletons. It began as a single episode OAV by Konami that spawned a series. Original designs and character development make this a great anime series. The animation is great and the computer generated Sonic Divers (flying mecha) blend well together.
The story follows 3 young girls who are recruited to participate in a secret government program. Earth was under siege by huge creatures called W.O.R.M.s but were destroyed 10 years ago. The girls are brought together to work for the Sonic Diver program. They were to be defenders of humankind if the W.O.R.M.s ever returned. Well of course they return!! Anyway the series follows the girls and then adds two more towards the end of the series. I loved the interaction of the girls as they learn to work 
and live together.
The series is like Eureka 7 and Neon Genesis Evengelion rolled into one. Except without the obligatory, angst-ridden, teenage boy. Instead the girls fall into the typical anime personifications. Eika, the serious by the rules girl. Otaha the fun loving always happy girl, and Karen the quiet shy bookworm girl. I loved everything about this anime and although it is 26 episodes I wanted more. Everyone I recommended it to, loved it and I’m sure you will too.
