Another great anime series. If you liked the television series Firefly, you will love Outlaw Star. Great animation quality, top notch character development, and well told stories make this one of the better anime series. The series was produced by Sunrise Studios but the English version was produced by Bandai.
It follows Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking. Gene is the brawn while 11 year old Jim is the brains of the operation. They run a little business where they take on odd jobs to get by. They end up with the Outlaw Star and an android girl named Melfina. Their crew grows when a female assassin Twilight Suzuka and Aisha a Ctarl-Ctarl cat alien join them.
The series follows their adventures as they search for the Galactic Leyline, a 
mythological place which is supposed to hold treasure. This series reminds me a lot of Cowboy Bebop with the themes and pacing of the stories. Even the animation is very similar. Not that anything is wrong with that.
The animation is a bit dated but still holds up pretty well. The stories and characters are what really make this series. It’s definitely a must watch, and worth adding it to your anime library as well.
