We got the chance to interview actress and martial artist Sascha Raeburn.  Make sure to check out the “Kick Ass Anime Fight Scene” at the end of the interview!

CG: How long have you been acting?

newhdshot!SR: I’ve always been acting since I was a kid, school plays then I moved on to more serious acting courses and training run by universities then into T.V commercials, small parts on T.V. and films.

CG: I know you are doing very well in Australia, are you an Australian native?

SR: Yes, I am an Australian native, born and raised.

CG: When did you become interested in martial arts?

SR: I took an interest in Martial Arts when I was a kid playing those Streetfighter games with my brothers growing up! However it was the discipline that drew me to it as I thought it would make me a better actor.

CG: I saw on your IMDb profile that you have a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. That is an amazing achievement. How long did it take you to get the Black Belt?

SR: It took me roughly 4 years of hard training, a mixture of both one on one and group-style class training.

CG: Are you trained in any other styles?

SR: Yes I’m trained in Capoeira for 4 years now as well.

CG: Which is your favorite?

SR: I love them both for different reasons, Tae Kwon Do to me is like boxing it’s a direct art form and Capoeira is an art form which was developed to disguise the movements by using dance and acrobatics, there is a fluidity and agility I love about capoeira that is quite liberating. Both are rich in traditions and I really like that.

CG: Which do you enjoy more acting or fighting?

cartoon37SR: My first passion is and always will be acting, ideally though it’s when the two meet. :)

CG: If you could beat up any man in Hollywood who would it be & why?

SR: I’d love to have a fun fist fight with Keanu Reeves he was awesome in The Matrix.

CG: If you could beat up any woman in Hollywood who would it be & why?

SR: I think it would be pretty cool fighting with Angelina Jolie, she was brilliant in ‘Wanted’ I’d love to work opposite her just her physicality and presence alone impress me.

CG: If you where the star of an action movie and were given the power to choose your leading man from the following who would you choose:
A. Bruce Lee
B. Jet Li
C. Jackie Chan

SR: Although Bruce Lee’s my idol.. It’s hard to choose between Jackie Chan and Jet Li, I’d get them both! They are amazing.

CG: There are a lot of new movies coming out that are inspired by martial arts. Which are you the most excited to see?

SR: I’ve heard about ‘The Avengers’ new movie and ‘Justice League: Mortal’ I love comic book and video game films, I’m excited about the talk of Kill Bill 3!! I love Quentin Tarantino’s films. I’m also excited about anything Jean Claude Van Damme’s doing, he’s a bit of a legend in the Martial Art Film Genre.

CG: Which actors/actresses inspire you?

SR: James Dean, Johnny Depp, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, Michelle Rodriguez, Hillary Swank, Michelle Yeoh and there’s still more!

CG: The Kick Ass Anime Fight Scene is amazing. Is it part of a larger project? If so when will that be released? What was the inspiration behind it?

SR: Thank you! It was an opportunity to work with Fan Huang a talented Taiwanese director, it may expand to something bigger but for now it’s a short film. The inspiration behind it was ‘Bubblegum Crisis’ a cool 80′s Japanese, cyberpunk anime. It’s about these girls that kick ass called ‘The Knight Sabers’ they fight and protect Tokyo, it’s fantastic!

CG: Are there any other projects you are currently working on?

SR: Yes, an Independent feature film due out next year, it’s action based! I’m playing, ‘Eva’ she kicks ass! The film’s called ‘Nightstar’. I’m also working on a couple of short film projects, one which is martial arts.
